Parenting Angels from heaven

Its not that often we get to discuss our parenting skills with other people, maybe because most of us realizes we are not perfect parents. For example my children are angels from haven until they get into trouble. I remember one of my children getting in trouble at school for not doing what the teacher wanted, and if I remember correctly it had something to do with the kids go out to play and that day this kid, well, my child decided he was not going outside; why? we may never know, but this type of behavior makes a parent feels stupid when called to the school and you have no explanation, only checking your parenting style, and mine is not perfect, but I have angels from heaven.

when we talk about love it is important to have these three things: commitment , intimacy , and passion. I knew that they were important but didn't focus on these three elements in my own relationship.

I have been with the same woman for 30 years - a since of humor has been vital to our relationship. we have gotten through tough times and great times. knowing that no matter what we have each others back.

Love; what is it? I have heard so many different definitions of love, and often people say the same...love is caring...love is sacrifice...love is sharing your feelings and openness. I was watching a movie that was quite interesting; B rated, the actors where not very popular at all, but the movie as I watched pulled me in. This professor was doing research on intimacy and sex; what was surprising was the number of people who does not know the difference between the two, the movie made me think, even examine myself. know disrespect but do you know the difference between the two? thought I would share; oh! lets not forget, as one song writer said "whats love got to do with it", well you see, I believe love has to do every thing with it.
without love where would we be, and if I never come to know what intimacy is, my wife and I would not have made it 3 decades. Am I being a critic? maybe... I would love to see more of our TV commercials without sex and more of our TV and movies centered around intimacy.

family structure vs function

OK, I am going to just put this out there; as a Father of 3 adult children I thought I knew it all because my wife and kids sometimes tells me how swell I am a a dad and husband.

hey what's going on here? from now on the positive stokes will not work, we have functioned this way for years and I thought my father/husband hood was above average; I thought functioning was the structure so internally I am renewing my methods, the positive strokes for fixing my daughter's flat tier, the husband to-do list and my tools and extra money... the whole family is in trouble, and the only way they can get away with the slithering and conniving ways is I will have to be tied-up and put in the closet with a sock in my mouth.

This past week was verrrry unique, because our assignment took me out of my comfort zone a little; Persuading a stranger to commitment, I have been in a marrige for 30 years this year, and I try to suround myself with people of that same lifestyle and value-system. I dont know if the person I tried to persuade believed me.

I made a couple of trips to Africa this summer. I stayed in a home of a family in Malawi. I hitch hiked from Malawi to Mozambique and then on to Zambia ending my first trip with a flight back to Malawi rather than hitch hiking. I was there 21 days.

My second trip was to Johannesburg, South Africa for seven days. These experiences have greatly impacted my life and made me more appreciative of my family and friends here in America and our way of life.

As a professional it has changed my perspective. I am now driven to travel, get more education, and see more of the world and the way families function.

This is got to be one of the most interesting classes I have ever taken in my life; this is because I am a international traveler and I now have an instructor with personal experience, love for the family unit and teach from the heart.

Needles to say, I have had instructors who's voice tone would break glass and did not know the information as well as he/she should have, not to mention their delivery. All of my children are adults and my wife and I have been married for 30 years and we have 2 grand children; this means a lot for me to have a good instructor.
